Edit SMTP Server List on Mac

Are you having trouble setting up your email account on your Mac? If so, one of the possible solutions is to edit the SMTP server list. In this article, we will guide you through the process of editing the SMTP server list on your Mac.

The first step is to open Apple Mail and click on 'Add Account' from the File menu. Then, select 'Manual setup or additional server types' and click 'Next'. This will take you to a window where you can enter your email account settings.

Incoming Server (IMAP) Settings

In this window, you need to set up the incoming server (IMAP). To do this, make sure that the SSL (encrypted connection) option is selected. Then, enter your University of Michigan email address in the 'User Name' field and click 'More Settings'.

Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings

Next, you need to set up the outgoing server (SMTP). To do this, select the 'Outgoing Server' tab and choose the following settings:

* Check the 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' box.

* Enter your University of Michigan email address in the 'User Name' field.

* Enter your name as you want it to appear when sending messages in the 'Your Name' field.

* Choose IMAP as the account type.

Editing the SMTP Server List

After setting up your incoming and outgoing servers, you need to edit the SMTP server list. To do this, select the 'Edit Server List' option from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop-down list.

In this window, make sure that only one server is listed, which should be your University of Michigan email account. If there are any unused servers in the list, you can remove them by selecting the server and clicking 'Remove Server'.

Important Notes

It's important to note that Apple Mail sometimes reverts back to its old SMTP settings, so we recommend removing any old SMTP server entries. Also, ITS recommends using only apps and clients created and supported by Google or web browsers to connect to U-M Google accounts.
